I am a 25 year old aeronautical engineering graduate, working in research and development. I’m a big soccer nut, and sport in general. Reading, sleeping and hacking my computer also feature highly in my life.
“Real Life” is a big change from studying and living at home, I’m going to need something to help me keep track of all the changes in my life.
Hopefully this blog will lend a hand.

Hi,
I read that you fractured your left clavicle and have fully healed. Congratulations on that! I have some questions to ask you about the fractured clavicle as I’m suffering from one too! At the exact same spot and it looks the same to me.
The doctor told you the bump will smoothen itself out in 18 – 24 months? Meaning the bone will be a it was before the fracture? Now why is it my doctor told me the bump is permanent.. Now which is true? By the way, I’m at 6 weeks of healing and I had no choice the past two days but to help carry some heavy things. Now my fracture feels sore and I’m afraid it will not heal properly.
Hoping to hear more from you soon about the fractured clavicle. And oh, it was my first broken bone too! On a motorbike accident..
Hey,
Sorry to hear that you have are going through this too!
In my case, the fracture was not that severe (I’ve been trying to scan my X-rays to put up here, but not luck yet). The angle between the two sides did get a little worse after a couple of weeks. I am pretty sure that this was due to having my sling done too tightly, which sort of made my shoulder slump forward.
You should really see someone about your clavicle if you are unsure, and especially if it is hurting after the lifting. Does it feel like the fracture has worsened or is it just sore?
As for the bump …
The bone heals itself and forms a callous (bump) around the site of the fracture. My doctor, physio and a bone specialist said that the bump should smooth out over time (perhaps not entirely, but certainly become less obvious).
I didn’t take that to mean that the angle of my clavicle would return to normal. I will always have a slight rise in the middle of the clavicle around the site of the fracture. There’s a picture floating around on my blog of the clavicle, and you can see not only the obvious bump, but the general change in shape. Now I think about it, I may take another one soon for comparison.
Best of luck! I hope that things turn out okay. Remember to take it easy!
